"Ugh! I wish I hadn't stuck with my fitness plan!"
Said no one. Ever.
Worldwide pandemic. Lockdowns. Stay-at-home orders. Riots. Food shortages. Gym closures. Fear. Resistance. Obstacles. 2020 has been a relentless year. For some of us, the ability to focus on fitness isn't even a luxury we can afford at times. The obstacles to creating and/or sustaining a healthy lifestyle often seemed too big to overcome if you gave in. If you let yourself go. If you stopped working out. You are not alone if you fall into poor or even atrocious eating habits. But it's still not too late to change all that.
Even if every word in the above paragraph describes you and your year, that is okay. You can turn this beat around and march to a different drum from here forward. And you won't be sorry you did.
You may wonder, "If so many obstacles still stand in my way, how can I possibly think about creating a fitness plan I will stick to?" Valid question. There are still many challenges between you and the fitter version of you. Here are some tips and tricks to stick to your fitness plan for a better mind, body, and soul:
- Know this: you won't regret sticking with your workouts even if your fitness plan is reduced to 1 or 2 days a week of workouts, even if those workouts are 20 minutes long. If you can stick to it consistently, you will not regret it.
- Start small. As the point above mentions, start with a little. We suggest introducing just one new thing at a time. Start with one workout a week and build up from there.
- The results will compound. Right now, you may be stuck in the vicious cycle of knowing you need to improve your fitness. But then you feel guilty when you don't work out, eat healthier, etc. Then you feel depressed. Then you don't work out. And the cycle repeats in a downward spiral toward worse health. But, if you can introduce one positive thing, it could be just the catalyst you need to switch that spiral upward.
No matter who you are. No matter what physical condition you're in. We know you have overcome a lot already in 2020. You can do hard things. It will be hard to change your habits to improve your fitness. But you can do it. You won't regret it. We promise.
