Growth Takes Time
This is a spin-off of an old Chinese Proverb, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
We live in a society of instant gratification. Don't get frustrated with your fitness results; personal growth takes time.
While this principle could apply to many aspects of life, I like to consider its application to fitness. For a long time, it has been one of my favorite phrases. Why? Because it's a valuable perspective to have when it comes to exercise, health, and goal-setting.
The fruit on the tree didn't just appear. The tree didn't just appear. The sprout didn't just appear. It all came from a seed. The seed was the start. The hard thing about seeds is that they don't look like much. And, when you first plant them, it's going to be a while before you see the fruit. Sometimes the changes that take place are invisible or microscopic at best. But so much transpires between seed and fruit.
When you begin an exercise program, a healthy habit, and the like, you may not have much to show for it at first (except perhaps some very tender muscles) or even for a while. But, little by little, those small, microscopic efforts (those trips to the gym, those consistently better food choices, and those small disciplines) culminate into transformation.
The key, though, is that seed. There will be no fruit. Not ever. Not without that start, that seed. But don't wait. If you didn't plant your seed "20 years ago," the second-best time is now. Start right now. Transform your life by beginning your growth journey today. Something beautiful will come of it.
Cheers to Spring and Growth,
Rachael
